GUEST SPEAKER - ROWENA HOWE - SURFERS PARADISE ALLIANCE

With over 10 years in the tourism industry, Rowena has had the opportunity to experience a diverse range of world class destinations and associated products and services.

Rowena started out in this exciting industry in hotel sales with the industry leading - Medina Serviced Apartment. Whilst with this dynamic company, Rowena oversaw the launch of 5 Medina properties spanning 3 states of Australia. This opportunity and associated success gave Rowena the foundations to take on and market a new product - or reposition a current one - and nurture it into a profitable entity.

Following Medina, Rowena spent time with Ascott International, a global Serviced Apartment chain. She soon relocated to New Zealand to head-up the Sales & Marketing for their NZ operations. Although the two countries are close in proximity and language, there are distinct cultural differences both personally and professionally. This exposure enabled Rowena to broaden her overall thinking processes on life and business, alongside developing an ability to adapt swiftly and flexibly to new environments.

Whilst in New Zealand, the opportunity to open Gold Coast Tourism's first international office was presented. Here again, Rowena was required to develop programs and market positioning strategies from inception, which ultimately lead to further expansion internationally for Gold Coast Tourism.

The transition from hotels to destination management and marketing further enhanced Rowena's market knowledge and overall expertise, and has lead to her current position as Chief Executive Office for Surfers Paradise Alliance - the Marketing and Management body for Surfers Paradise. In her short time with Surfers Paradise Alliance, Rowena and her team have introduced and executed a fresh brand for Surfers Paradise, refocused the company's strategic direction to deliver tangible results for Surfers Paradise businesses and worked to develop an energetic and dynamic culture internally for the benefit of all who work there ? which is ultimately reflected in the quality work they now produce for - and alongside - all key stakeholders.
