KATE CARLYLE

Kate Carlyle has forged a successful career in broadcast journalism.  Having started out in television news, she opted to pursue the more challenging avenue of radio.

Kate has worked alongside some of commercial radio’s biggest personalities – including Luke Bradnam, Emily-Jade O’Keefe, Ian Skippen and Jamie Dunn.

Kate thrives on the pressure of working to tight deadlines; writing copy, conducting interviews, editing audio, compiling rundowns and then presenting her work live On-Air.  She has been in the Gold Coast media pack for the past 11 years, firstly in the network newsroom of Sea/Gold FM, and for the past 6 years at 102.9 Hot Tomato.

In her position as News Director, Kate manages a small but dynamic team of journalists.  Kate has taken many students and graduates under her wing, as part of mentoring and internship programs at Griffith University and QUT.  Her team has won several media awards – including recognition for top coverage of local Surf Life Saving campaigns and events.

Kate has also offered her expertise to conduct guest lectures for local journalism and communication students.  She’s been on media advisory panels for both charity organisations and private companies.  Kate was an Ambassador for the Magic Millions Carnival on the Gold Coast in 2009.

In April of this year, at age 31 - Kate was diagnosed with Ductal Carcinoma In-Situ, a form of non-invasive early stage breast cancer.  She has undergone three operations including a bi-lateral mastectomy and will soon have reconstructive surgery.  The story of Kate’s diagnosis, the decisions she’s had to make with respect to treatment options and her positive attitude regarding possible outcomes is one she is well equipped to tell.
