A Note From Your President

A note from your president....
Greetings
I hope you've all enjoyed our first three guest speakers for the year, as well as our theme of overcoming the negative and seeking the positive in a world that is becoming more challenging by the day.
This month we welcome Queensland's new Minister for Tourism and Fair Trading, Peter Lawlor MP as our guest speaker. With Minister Lawlor based in the heart of our region and a Gold Coast local for over 40 years, our organisation and our industry must surely benefit from his local knowledge and proximity.
Continuing our theme of looking forward and investing in strategies to combat the GFC, we look forward to hearing Minister Lawlor's vision and plan for protecting and bolstering our vital industry. With Qantas workers the latest to fall victim to the economic downturn our Q&A session with the minister is sure to be a lively one!
The timing for our breakfast at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary couldn't be better as April saw the return of the lorikeet arena - a tribute to the Sanctuary's founder Alex Griffiths and a celebration of Queensland's 150th Anniversary. As an extra special treat, staff will be on hand to give us the chance to get closer toa wedge-tail eagle - what an exciting start to the day and all before breakfast!
Have you checked out the latest discounts and special offers available exclusively to WIT members on our website? Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is offering adults at children's prices (that's a saving of $18pp) and when the whale watching season recommences in June, Spirit of the Gold Coast Whale Watching will also be offering adults at children's prices (a saving of $30pp). These are just a couple of the offers available so click here for more details on this and other member discounts/offers.
Do you have a special discount you'd like to offer your fellow WIT members? If so, we'd love to hear from you. Simply email membership@womenintourism.org with all the details and they'll be posted on our website. Speaking of which, we are moving ever closer to the unveiling of our new revamped website so if you've got any suggestions, please email them to website@womenintourism.org.
On the social networking front, after trialing a change to the third Thursday of the month, it's been decided to revert to our original night of the third Wednesday. So, mark your diaries for 5.30pm on Wednesday 20May at the Amalfi Wine Bar & Bistro at the Watermark Hotel & Spa for a chat, a nibble and perhaps a drink or two with your WIT friends.
See you all at breakfast!
Until next we meet, bye for now
